Advanced Ion Exchange

Advanced Ion Exchange (AIX) is a water treatment process commonly used for water softening or de-mineralization, but it also is used to remove other substances from the water in processes such as de-alkalization, de-ionization, and disinfection.

AIX resins have the following benefits:
  • Flexible alternative to polymer IX materials
  • Enables separations and selectivity unavailable with polymer IX
  • Wider pH operating range
  • Does not change volume with pH shift
  • Allows fully loaded beds
  • Improves unit volume throughput

 Applications & Case Studies

Acid-stable Membranes

One of the leading commercial applications is in metal recovery, concentration and acid separation for mining applications. Improve metal yields from mining processing and waste streams by:
  • Concentration of metal in leach streams in order to reduce system size, improve through-put, lower operating - and treatment costs
  • Recovery of metals from raffinate (copper, nickel, zinc, cobalt, molybdenum, tungsten, uranium, gold, etc.)
  • Recovery of high-value metals from bleed streams and waste ponds & separation of acid from metals prior to neutralisation
Membrane systems can be implemented in acid solutions to recover and purify acids whilst simultaneously concentrating inorganic or organic ions. Typical applications include:
  • Purification of acids from metal cations &  spent acidic CIP streams
  • Recovery of acids in leaching operations & dissolved chemicals
  • Decolourization of mineral acids
  • Concentration and recovery of ions in acid streams
  • Aggressive cleaning of membranes in standard applications

Typical applications in this media include:
  • Recovery of spent alkaline streams (NaOH, KOH)
  • Concentration of metals from alkaline streams
  • Recovery of spent electrolyte solutions
  • Reduction of COD in industrial wastewater prior to neutralisation
  • Recovery of bottle and equipment cleaning solutions
  • Aggressive cleaning of membranes in standard applications
